Curacao, Haiti (Feb. 28, 2005) -- The amphibious assault ship USS Saipan (LHA 2) moored to the pier during a port call in Curacao, Haiti. Saipan is currently supporting New Horizons, a three-month humanitarian and civic assistance exercise by Commander U.S. Southern Command. Saipan arrived off the coast of Haiti Feb. 1, 2005 and has delivered Navy Seabee construction personnel, U.S. Army military police, and nearly 1,200 tons of construction supplies and equipment via helicopters and landing craft units. The Task Force conducting New Horizons will build three schoolhouses, drill three potable water wells and conduct free health clinics. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Erik K.
