Cabalian Bay, Philippines (Feb. 21, 2006) -- The amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) conducts Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) operations in the waters off the Philippine coast. Essex along with the amphibious dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), are providing humanitarian assistance to victims in the Saint Bernard Municipality, where the town of Guinsahugon located in the southern part of the island was completely devastated during a Feb. 17 landslide.
