Sibuyan Sea (Feb. 17, 2006) -- The amphibious assault ship USS Essex
(LHD 2) returns to sea shortly after arriving in Subic Bay,
Philippines. Essex along with the dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry
(LSD 49) were ordered back to sea, and are en route to the Philippine
Island of Leyte, to provide much needed humanitarian assistance for the
victims of a devastating landslide. Both ships are part of the
Forward Deployed Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), the Navy's only
forward-deployed amphibious force, homeported in Sasebo, Japan.
