Naval Station Norfolk, Va. (Aug. 14, 2004) -- The amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) is guided by tugs as the ship pulls into Naval Station Norfolk. Kearsarge is returning home after a surge deployment to transport elements of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) to the central command area of responsibility (AOR) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and the global war on terrorism.
