Leyte Gulf, Republic of the Philippines (Feb. 20, 2006) -- The U.S.
Navy's dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) conducts operations
supporting local relief efforts on the Island of Leyte. Harpers Ferry
and the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) are providing
humanitarian assistance to victims in the Saint Bernard Municipality,
where the town of Guinsahugon located in the southern part of the
island was completely devastated during a Feb. 17 landslide. U.S. Navy
