PACIFIC OCEAN (March 10, 2007) -- A landing craft air cushion (LCAC) assigned to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 5, Detachment Western Pacific, readies itself to enter the well deck of dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49). The ship left Okinawa, Japan en route to the island of Iwo Jima to support the 62nd commemoration of the World War II battle there. LCACs will be used to transport Marines and Sailors to island to observe the commemoration and experience firsthand what has become sacred territory as result of the sacrifices made there.
