Pacific Ocean (Nov. 28, 2006) -- Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) 24 from Assault Craft Unit Five (ACU-5) exits the well deck of amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa (LHA 1) during a routine training evolution off the coast of California. The LCAC provides the capability to launch amphibious assaults from points over the horizon, thereby decreasing risk to ships and personnel.
