ABOARD USS KITTY HAWK (May 20, 2001) -- USS Blue Ridge Steams in formation as part of a multi-national naval forces comprised of Royal Australian Navy, Royal Canadian Navy and U. S. Navy Ships to include: USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63); USS Chancellorsville; USS John S McCain; USS Gary; SSN Kamehameha; USNS Rappahannock; HMAS Brisbane; HMAS Adelaide; HMAS Success; HMAS Canberra; HMAS Westralia; HMCS Algonquin; HMCS Vancouver; and HMCS Regina.
These Ships are participating in Exercise Tandem Thrust 01, which is a combined multi-national exercise comprised of United States, Australian and Canadian military training units. This biannual exercise is being held in the vicinity of Shoal water Bay training area, Queensland, Australia. More than 27,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airman and Marines are participating. Canadian units are taking part as opposing forces. Tandem Thrust is a training exercise for crisis action planning and execution for contingency response operations. Kitty Hawk operates out of Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan and is the world's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier. (RELEASED)
