GAETA, Italy (Jan. 20, 2010) -- The amphibious command ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20) received the Retention Excellence Award for Fiscal Year 2009 on Jan. 5. This is the second consecutive year the Mount Whitney has received the award. The award is presented annually to ship and shore commands that have won two or more quarterly honor rolls during a fiscal year. Mount Whitney is the U.S. 6th Fleet flagship and operates with a hybrid crew of Sailors and Military Sealift Command civilian mariners.
