Atlantic Ocean (Jan. 22, 2005) - An AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter, assigned to the "Golden Eagles" of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron One Six Two (HMM-162), is towed into position on the flight deck aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) prior to flight operations. The AH-1W provides fire support and coordination to the landing force during amphibious assaults and subsequent operations ashore. The AH-1W can fire TOW, Hellfire, and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles and can be outfitted with Zuni rocket launchers. The Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) are participating in an Expeditionary Strike Group Exercise in preparation for their upcoming scheduled deployment.
