CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (Sept 8, 2000) -- Richard A. Castanet, 47, and son
Christian, 17, of Richmond, Va., load a CH-46E Sea Knight with the crew
after riding 'shotgun' in AH-1 Super Cobra. Castanet, an engineer for
General Electric, spent the day here after winning a contest sponsored
by the Internet company Yahoo. He said the ride in the Cobra was the
highlight of his Marine Corps experience. The contest 'Yahoo Fantasy
Career Day' called for entrants to submit an essay saying why they
wanted to be a Marine for a day. More than 300 applicants submitted
essays, and according to Marine officials his positive attitude and
motivation set him apart from the rest of the applicants. In the past
two days here, the pair also ran in formation runs and rode in a
riverine assault craft. This was the Castanet's last stop in their
Marine Corps adventure before returning home. The pair was hosted
by the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C., The Basic
School in Quantico, Va., Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., and
Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, S.C., earlier in the week.
