Caption:
An MV-22 Engineering and Manufacturing, Development Osprey aircraft makes its landing approach to the flight deck of the USS Saipan (LHA 2) during deck landing qualifications on Jan. 16, 1999.  The Saipan is the base for the aircraft's month-long sea trials which are designed to establish the parameters for all phases of operation of the aircraft on a Tarawa class amphibious assault ship like the Saipan.  The Osprey, with its unique tilt rotor design, will eventually replace the CH-46 Sea Stallion helicopter.  DoD photo by Petty Officer 1st Class Benjamin D. Olvey, U.S. Navy. (RELEASED)
