Atlantic Ocean (Nov. 17, 2003) -- U.S. Navy Aviation Boatswains' Mates refuel a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey on the flight deck aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5). The Osprey is a multi-engine, dual-piloted, self-deployable, medium lift, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) tilt rotor aircraft designed for combat, combat support, combat service support, and Special Operations missions worldwide. Still under development, the MV-22 variant is scheduled to replace the Corps' aged fleet of CH-46E and CH-53D medium lift helicopters.
