Lance Cpl. Scott F. Powers, with Company D, 2nd Tank Battalion, cranks down on the M1A1 Main Battle Tank's tracks in what he called "walking the track."  It's part of a tanker's routine checks to ensure all the bolts are tightened and ensure nothing has shaken loose.  One Marine on the tank crew said he felt for every ten hours they operate, they spend a hundred hours in maintenance.  Tankers with Regimental Combat Team 5, said that they are a breed apart who maintain a love-hate relationship with the 70-ton tracked vehicle that is the core of their identity.
