At sea aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) May 15, 2002 -- USS Kitty Hawk and
USNS Rappahannock (T-AO 204) steam along side each other during a
replenishment at sea (RAS). A RAS allows ships to continue
conducting their missions without having to return to port for food,
fuel, or other needed supplies. Kitty Hawk is conducting work-ups
in preparation for an upcoming regularly scheduled deployment.
Kitty Hawk is the Navy's only permanently forward deployed aircraft
carrier and is homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. U.S. Navy photo by
