At sea aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Nov. 6, 2002 -- Flight deck crewmembers conduct an aircraft barricade rigging exercises on the shipÕs flight deck. Nylon straps which are supported between two hydraulically operated stanchions from a net across the deck to stop aircraft making an emergency landing, when landing gear has failed or sustained damage.  Kitty Hawk and her embarked Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) is currently underway providing a forward presence in the Asian Pacific area of operation, while conducting scheduled training and exercises with regional allies. Kitty Hawk is the Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier and is home ported in Yokosuka, Japan.  US Navy Photo by Photographer's Mate 3rd Class Todd Frantom. (RELEASED)
