ABOARD USS KITTY HAWK (May 12, 2001)- The superstructure of the Kitty Hawk before starting night flight operations. Kitty Hawk is currently participating in Exercise Tandem Thrust 01, which is a combined United States and Australian military training exercise. This biannual exercise is being held in the vicinity of Shoal water Bay training area, Queensland, Australia. More than 27,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airman and Marines are participating. Canadian units are taking part as opposing forces. Tandem Thrust is a training exercise for crisis action planning and execution for contingency response operations.
