Pacific Ocean (Jan. 11, 2005) -- Damage Controlman 3rd Class Pat Knodel, of Orange County, Calif., monitors the testing of the hangar bay sprinkler system aboard the conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) during sea trials in the western Pacific Ocean. Currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the U.S. Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
