Yokosuka, Japan (April 18, 2005) -- Sailors assigned to the Air Department, conduct maintenance on catapult one aboard the conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) during a routine availability. Kitty Hawk has four steam-powered catapults aboard her flight deck. Currently in port, Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the U.S. Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
