(Mar. 3, 2003) -- The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) pulls away from its berth as her crew "man the rails" and bid farewell to their friends, family, and loved ones. Nimitz is beginning a regularly scheduled deployment heading to the Arabian Gulf to conduct combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
