Philippine Sea (Jun. 13, 2003) -- Flight deck personnel raise the support stanchions to position the fixed wing aircraft arrested landing emergency barricade during a simulated emergency landing drill. The drills involve fire, casualties, and emergency landing situations to sharpen the readiness of flight deck personnel for the possible emergency scenarios. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Force will remain in the Western Pacific while the forward-deployed USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) completes scheduled dry dock maintenance.
