Norfolk, Va. (April 4, 2006) -- The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) and embarked Carrier Air Wing Seventeen (CVW-17) departs Naval Station Norfolk, as part of U.S. Southern Command’s (SOUTHCOM) “Partnership of the Americas” deployment. For two months more than 6,500 Sailors on ships assigned to the George Washington Carrier Strike Group (GWCSG) will deploy to the Caribbean Sea to enhance regional maritime security, and strengthen ties through operations and exercises with Caribbean and Latin American partner nations.  U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Lolita M.
