Oahu, Hawaii (June 11, 1996) -- A Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) departs from Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Station, Hawaii, for USS Cleveland (LPD 07), an Amphibious Transport Dock ship, during RIMPAC Ô96. The LCAC, augmented to 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit from Camp Pendleton, Ca., was used to transport Marines and civilians from a fictitious U.S. embassy under siege by anti-American demonstrators during a simulated Noncombatant Evacuation Operation.  The NEO exercise is designed to give Marines training in evacuation of civilians from hostile foreign environments.
