Kenya, Africa (Jan. 5, 2004) - An aerial view of a Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC 63) heading towards Manda Bay Kenyan Naval training area in Kenya, Africa.  Manda Bay Naval Base is the primary site for bilateral training, where Sailors and Marines of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC) are participating in Exercise Edged Mallet 04.  Edged Mallet is a two-week exercise designed to strengthen military-to-military relationships, increase interoperability, and familiarize U.S. personnel with the environmental and operational characteristics of Kenya while demonstrating amphibious capabilities.  Additionally, Edged Mallet features Humanitarian Assistance Operations and bilateral combined arms training with Kenyan Armed Forces.  Edged Mallet involved more than 1,800 U.S. Sailors and Marines and is part of an ongoing series of U.S. - Kenya military activities that refine, promote and maintain the operational readiness of participating forces while supporting and maintaining understandings between Kenyan and U.S. personnel.  U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 1st Class Ted Banks.  (RELEASED)
