from the USS Essex to load the 31st MEUfs vehicles and equipment here
Aug. 20. The MEU departed Okinawa for the Middle East in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom. An LCAC is a high-speed, over-the-beach,
amphibious landing craft capable of carrying 60-75 tons of payload and
is used to transport weapons, equipment, cargo and personnel of a
