Coronado, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2006) -- A Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC)
lands on the beach of Naval Air Station North Island from Marine Corps
Base Camp Pendleton. The LCAC is a high-speed, over-the-beach, fully
amphibious landing craft capable of carrying a 60-75 ton payload. The
air cushion allows the LCAC to reach more than 70 percent of the
world's coastline compared to only 17 percent with conventional landing
craft. U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Daniel
