(July 23, 2004) -- The Navy's newest and most technologically advanced aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) enters San Diego harbor for a homeporting celebration, welcoming the ship to Naval Air Station North Island, and officially joining the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The celebration will included various dignitaries, including former First Lady Nancy Reagan, members of the Congress, state officials and celebrities. Commanded by Capt. James A. Symonds, the ship was commissioned in July 2003, and is completing a two-month transit around South America to her new homeport.  U.S. Navy photo by Donald Fletcher (RELEASED)
