Ship's Crest:

Description of Coat of Arms:The ship's emblem is the product of many long hours of work on the part of the crew, their families and the citizens of Buffalo. A contest was held, and after much deliberation, a compromise produced the final emblem. The globe symbolizes the United States Navy which ranges the world over. The cartoon character BUFFALO, steaming into battle, is characteristic of the type of emblem chosen by the early units of the United States Submarine Force and portrays the "esprit de corps" of the which the Submarine Force is proud. The dolphins, denizens of the deep, are traditional symbols of the Submarine Service. As is naval custom, one, silver, represents the enlisted men of the crew and the other, gold, represents the ship's officers. Forever this emblem will distinguish the United States Ship BUFFALO.
